Daffodil's gamelan has been on my mind; I think we should not only have one but invent an entirely cultured (see how I'm using that word? see? what i'm sayin' though?) form of it that expresses the uniqueness of being what we are where we are.
The gamelan in indonesia is highly regional, and yet westerners/americans that learn gamelan tend to reproduce the 'regionality' of wherever their primary teacher/influence is from - ending up sounding pretty vanilla in the process.
Gamelan is rarely thought of as a way to express passion or anger - by us anyway - what do you think about this?

Mon, February 23, 2004 - 5:17 PMI think Gamelon is right up our alley. The alley of the Flower cult that is. This last week at Music rehearsal we ended up getting into it a little, and it was great to knock a little rust off of the theory. I think the more we explore the possibilities here, the more we'll find. I think that larger gatherings could help this to develop, due to the nature of the music. I move that Victor and Aaron be put to task leading us into an area where we can experiment with the elements of our Ameri-lon.
