Lokifreign Review 12-26-07

I used to have a great list of these but time marches on. I thought I'd share them with you; that way, there will be an archive to refer to on that internets, ther. Stars represent Loki's personal assessment / enjoyment level on the ridiculous hollywood "5 star" scale which actually is exactly the same a the "out of ten" scale; ratings are given based solely on the average body of a given artist's work that Loki has actually been exposed to. Most of this is learned via the internet from two main sources in particular:

SomaFM ( http://somafm.com/ ) has The Drone Zone and Doomed:

LISTEN NOW:
Drone Zone: http://somafm.com/play/dronezone

Doomed: http://somafm.com/play/doomed

It really makes me feel so much better about everything, so much more hopeful, that these two stations exist. It makes me feel more valuable as a person whenever I turn either of them on.

Some of this is from other Daffodil members and/or their sexual partners or friends of their sexual partners, too, though.

===Don't=== look to any of this stuff to keep you from snuffing it, btw, uncle'okee gets his auditory soothing from different ponds than most people are willing to fish in.

Andreas Ammer, Fm Einheit ***
Drone and german. Who doesn't love scary germans talking? When the english parts come in I'm all like "wtf?"

Amorphous Ossiferous *****
I don't *think* they have any albums in the retail market but I could be wrong about that. Transcendent, abstract, self-contained, dignified, unrestrained yet naturally reserved, nearly perfect.

Big Mouse *****
Drone, very dark, coldly emotional. Not much to say except they jam my button down *every* time. What is it about having a tortured soul that makes listening to carefully perfected soul-torture sounds so moving and beautiful?

Black Lung ***1/2
techno, with that techno beat, so look away if that will bother you. If you liked the Unacceptable Face of Freedom or Beating A Retreat (Test Dept.), you'll find this even darker and far more cynical and good&peppery with that "I'm going to dance around and point in your face" thing. "The More Confusion the More Profit" is a good track.

Black Tape for a Blue Girl ***1/2
When this ensemble came out in the 90s, I was too poor and too into other stuff to worry about it much. Not that I regret it per se. It is like the best of the Swans / Jarboe but with deeper musical ability and way, way, way better vocals. Way. Sad, sad.

Brighter Death Now*****
Aw YEAH. Yeahyeahyeah. Warning: most people that sample this, I think, will shrivel up and expire or simply never listen to me ever again about what music to listen to. It's distilled sonic heaviness, and musical *weight* isn't something I find other people enjoying as much as I do. I imagine the earthly Demi-Urge to be a creature of this kind of insane-yet-self-controlled heaviness; I think Brighter Death Now is a fucking perfect name for this sound.

the Chains ****1/2
They may have broken up by now; it's hard to understand the reports on that, because Mr. McPuke is so fucking prolific and engaged with various things you have to take whatever people say about him with a grain of salt. I've read a lot of books, though, and I know that no matter how jocular and clever Mr. McPuke is, he';s going to get devoured alive by invisible demons in front of children at some future date, so my suggestion is to figure out how to get your hands on some Chains. There are sixteen zillion other projects this fucker does, and I recommend you give respect to all of them (esp. Hobo Gobbelins), but the Chains deliver the best / fullest work I've heard from this club.

Die Form Sadist School ****
minimalism, sanity-stretcher (side project of Die Form)

Mijael Gutierrez ***1/2
Ceremony drone, synth and vocals. Reminds me of this one italian guy who's name I totally forget - I bet CAlanna remembers. Anybody seen her any time recently?

Fear Factory ***
you probably knew about them, but I didn't. Sisters of Mercy only put out so much stuff - what if you need to listen to a whole lot more of some guy singing kind of awkwardly in a quavering baritone? Fear Factory even represents a kind of tolerable evolution of the NIN work as well. Like Christian Death they seem to like to put a 3xlength surreal drone in with every third or fourth "pop" tune.

Headscan ***
since Brian Eno has already put out everything they make 30 years ago, I'd suggest buying Eno albums instead of fishing for hints of originality in Headscan. However, when they come on the radio, I look up and think, "are they playing Eno drones, now?" but it turns out to be either these folks or those other people. Might as well have them.

the Hybryds ****
scary bombast, like Hunting Lodge. It makes me think of you.

Kahrayzee ****
total somnolence. "Drone" suggets too much activity and energy. It's like I'm asleep. If it had a breast I'd nurse it without thinking.

Second Voice ***1/2
Neo-classical dron-esque minimalism, ritual, dark, very krispinese

Shark Bait ***
Gotta have that experimentation, or shit gets stale. I look for people involved with this project to go on to better things in the future, if there is in fact to be a 'future'.

She Wants Revenge ***1/2
gettin' there, folks, keep it up. I ain't buying your albums or anything but, seriously,m though, keep it up. gettin' there.

She SIlenced Seraphim ***
Emo Skinny Puppy with movie-style keyboards.

Sigillum S ***
Good and crazy. Crazy candy.

Nomo Oggo ****1/2
MMMMM. They'll get a fifth star the day they realize that it isn't 100% "art" to have bad recording levels on your CDs. The thing is -I'll actually play the speaker-destroying track anyway - because it's just that good.

Pete Namlook ***1/2
drone, dark, mental - reminds me of M Magnon (Nocturnal Emissions) in that he seems to be trying to come off as this kind of new ager or cosmic Consciousness guy or something, but all his work sounds like insanity and scariness. Him and mom had some issues, and it's my hope that those issues will develop over time to turn that ignominious "1/2" into that crucial fourth star. PETE: you don't have to be defeated by your emotions in order to exploit their intensity in your work, feller. If you don't bleed out some serious shit before you get too old, you'll never be able to do it at all. I want you to use this time right now to be as much of a ridiculous teen-age style dick as you can so that your work will resonate with that essential tradition of shame which drives all truly great artists.

Will ***
The stable/safe side of Coil-oriented sequenced-synth brooding.

I'm probably going to keep doing this. I may move the venue, though.

I just made a new one, her name is zygote baby and is the comanion of camp tribal thumper baby who's birthing ritual was last mardigras. zygote is awaiting her birthing ritual which will entail a puttet show & dance routine as a segment of Dr. Leopold's Multi-form cabinet.
is anything else happening on the tattoo baby front?
p.s. I am on the hungry flower now. though tribe remains the hub of my chit chattery.

there is a new whisper in the night.

I am building daffo forums at hungryflower.org for our permanent use with no ads and under our total control. They should be live in the short term (< 1 week), and slowly modified from there. I am using phpBB, which is common opensource forum software and pretty maleable to our needs. Currently we will not have only 100 megs of storage and moderate bandwidth, but if we begin to want to store large amounts of imagery or mp3s, obviously we can upgrade. I've got us some pretty inexpensive hosting that is pretty flexible.

I can give out forwarding email addresses to anyone who is interested. You can be whatever_you_would_like@hungryflower.org and I will set it up to forward to any other email address. You can email me at ignatz@hungryflower.org or just post here.

Kisses to all! Congrats on all the recent successes!

i moved here a few months ago, and i'm finally starting to get my life stable enough to venture into my creativity again. i've been wanting to get involved with you guys ever since i heard of you...i was involved in a simular sort of troupe back in asheville, nc and miss it greatly. my friend kendra has gone to a few of your meetings. but what i was wondering is, how can i get involved with you? i know you have the singing going on...but what else...and what days? where do i need to go, and what hours?

btw, i have singing experience and play the violin...as well as being an artist...i'm glad that your group seems to be more musically oriented than the last group i was with. they were more performance based...acting, fire, fetish...that sort of thing.

I've only recently (re)joined this list and it seems like there's way more production going on than when I last hung with some of you. From an outside perspective the activity appears dangerously efficient :) Discipline is it's own reward as is sacrifice.

Sounds like there several ongoing projects running. Can I ask someone to fill me in on Daffodil's current schemes? I'm really quite curious.

I've got 8 free tix to the preview on Aug 4th at 8pm. Whos up for saucy puppetry? http://www.puppet.org/perform/davinci.shtml

Mild-mannered artist by day, Leonardo da Vinci becomes a “winged avenger” by night, crushing crime and kicking butt! The original “extraordinary gentleman” invents artificial wings, helicopters, bicycles and a submarine to smash Evil. Will da Vinci be able to save the day?!

** On a side note, don't you think this pic of sunspot resembles Van Gosh's sunflowers?
> its on now... i'm liking the drums. this is good, see now why can't i get trapped at williams street for possibly weeks with music? ^_^.

> And now, chanting, brought to you by a band of animals.
> The leader looks like nibbler.
> The chicken monster is awesome...
> and there's no obligatory scary bear. huh.
> loving the percussion though.

> These guys are teh awesomeness.
> i got both of the cams going on different windows... this is just too awesome!

> Indeed
> It is teh coolest band!

> MORE MORE MORE MORE! I can watch [as] repeats anytime! I'll turn the tv on like I always do...I'll just mute it! More performance!
Not gonna happen, the instruments are cleared out :P :( Oh well...it was a great thing to see them, and I live closeby so I might check them out sometime if they ever play anywhere like The Tabernacle or something.. speaking of which... does anyone know where they might frequent?

etc

DIRECTIONS

SO glad you are still able to make it tonight to perform on the webcam. Ideally you guys would start at 10pm and perform for 1/2 and hour or so. We have to be switch the key off of music at 11pm to encourage people to watch the adult swim block at 11pm.

We are easy to find.

1065 Williams Street
Atlanta, GA 30300

We are that old brick building on the corner of 12th and Williams Street (that says TBS) with the big flashing old fashioned sign.

Coming from 75/85 North, get off at the 10th/14th street exit, cross over 14th, take a left on 10th street, left on Williams Street, right on 12th street and right into the driveway up to the roof.

IF you are coming from Buckhead, heading towards town on Peachtree, take Peachtree to Spring Street, take right on Spring Street, cross over 14th street then take a right on 12th street and a left into the driveway up to the roof parking.

Pull up to the roof (one way driveway) and park up there. Ring the buzzer, if no one answers call me at (678) 612-1776 or call Hockey CHicken himself at (404) 575-5316 and one of us will come get you.

If you have a list of names of people coming tonight, please send me way.

I am very excited. Thanks again

Karen

Thanks

I'll be totally worthless for information, etc - just got hired for today so no sleep for lokifr. Already quite loopy, will almost certainly be nigh-surreal by tonight. Forgive, in advance, whatever I won't be able to help you with later. High-stress day (but excellent for fiscal purposes)

TERMINUS

ooooooh it's an outline!

part1: setting up the space to an ambient soundtrack. setting up includes enclosing pipoung players with a cage, drawing a line on the ground surrounding the cage, and laying out train tracks on the periphery.

part2: quiet gamelan. pipoungs seated within cage and chang chang players carrying train around the tracks. train gradually force the crowd in towards the pipoungs (as if onto a train platform).

part3: gamelan plays the ups and downs, bursts of loud/silence. the audience is trapped between the chang changs and the pipoungs with nowhere to go.

part4: high intensity gamelan, flashing lights, chaotic motion, screaming, loud, you get the point.

part5: closure. mournful music, recorded music from the performers who can't be with us, other music? Possibly Mary May dancing a surreal version of Chiftitelli with a slow gamelan beat down at the end.

costumes: monochromatic neutral colored clothing. black face paint (should we think about another dark color? blue?) with an appliance over the nose, low mouth of white fangs, and high eyes painted on forehead. possibly latex gloves for creepy, sterile look...

what we need:
-for 3 pats of face paint, milk jugs for 8 teeth per person(katie can bring these), tape and latex for appliances.
-for train...big pieces of cardboard (# depending on how many changchangs we have - preferrably 4?), ducktape, silver spray paint, possibly dowel rods for texture. if anybody wants to add advertisement-esque signs to the train, go for it!
-for tracks (and line?)...a paint/marker/chalk that will glow on the floor, and a spongemop to create the lines.
-for cage...four poles and shrink wrap (Tim is trying to get this from work).
-strobe type light for part4.
-possibly filmstrip projector (Tim has this?) to project train images on the walls surrounding the space.

who we have:
definitely...Krispin, Austin, Tim, Katie
maybe...Damon, Diana, MaryMay, Victor, Conrad
who else?

[please add change correct modify if needed]

I'm a flake. Sorry guys. I'll be cool for a while, and then I'll just go off and live in my own little dimension and suddenly I realize I haven't attended rehearsals or even spoken to my mates in a week.

Even so, I've never failed to ultimately pull through on a project I really have devoted myself to. I hope to show you all my best ASAP.

HEEYYY! I ah uh just remembered that Daffodil has been asked for by name by Dierde (um Something) whom some of us may remember. She was referred to Daffodil by Karen who says we are the shit.... are we the shit on July 17th? I kinda told her that we would have a meeting about it (but we didn't, of course(!) due to advanced krispisuckiness) and that I would call her tonight (oops) but HEY!

WOW yawl, that was *fantastic*. The puppeteers really took the opportunity to rock it hardcore. The gamelan was seething and tricky. It all went splendidly. Congratulations from the usually secretly overcritical one! Inspiring in the utmost, inspiring for a continued effort toward excellence and harmony and all that good stuff - YEA!!!

THE FLOWER TREE

Begin the song in pleasure, singer, enjoy, give pleasure to all, even to Life Giver. Yyeo ayahui ohuaya.

Delight, for Life Giver adorns us. All the flower bracelets, your flowers, are dancing. Our songs are strewn in this jewel house, this golden house. The Flower Tree grow and shakes, already it scatters. The quetzal breathes honey, the golden quéchol breathes honey. Ohuaya ohuaya.

You have transformed into a Flower Tree, you have emerged, you bend and scatter. You have appeared before God's face as multi-colored flowers. Ohuaya ohuaya.

Live here on earth, blossom! As you move and shake, flowers fall. My flowers are eternal, my songs are forever: I raise them: I, a singer. I scatter them, I spill them, the flowers become gold: they are carried inside the golden place. Ohuaya ohuyaya.

Flowers of raven, flowers you scatter, you let them fall in the house of flowers. Ohuaya ohuyaya.

Ah, yes: I am happy, I prince NezahualCóyotl, gathering jewels, wide plumes of quetzal, I contemplate the faces of jades: they are the princes! I gaze into the faces of Eagles and Jaguars, and behold the faces of jades and jewels! Ohuaya ohuyaya.

We will pass away. I, NezahualCóyotl, say, Enjoy! Do we really live on earth? Ohuaya ohuaya!

Not forever on earth, only a brief time here! Even jades fracture; even gold ruptures, even quetzal plumes tear: Not forever on earth: only a brief time here! Ohuaya ohuaya!

A sigular moment approaches. the Anneversary that marks three decades of my physical and psychic imposition apon the universe. Gather with us to either celebrate or rue this momentus occasion. I, for my part, with great affection for you, have already begun to cook. (with help from bryan, who loaned me some advance cash so I could get started early... thanks man.) When the hour strikes there will be grilled chicken and grilled duck, with tasty vegtables and side items. some wine will be present, but those who plan to honor my birth through heavy alchoholic cunsumption may wish to bring their own supply. Music, mingling, good food and unabashed praise and disdain for my person will be the order of the day, set here, in the newly accpetable Techbunker surroundings; on Tuesday the 15th of June, starting around 7:00 or so, and presumably running for some time into the late evening. Perhaps there will be a movie? we shall see.

This is the formal invite for the Daffelon to accompany some puppetry at The Center. This will be for the opening night of Evolutions, and possibly a later night as well. Performance isn't outside (sorry Zardoz), but will be in the big atrium area, before the people make their way downstairs to the theater.. So Here’s what info I can think of right now and we can talk more on Thursday about seeing where the group is with this.. Obscura is cool with having practice here at Planet Dog this Thursday if you guys want to..

Concept is "Swarm" : Obscura/Tree designed insect puppets. Swarm/Daffelon would play amongst the people arriving in the large atrium area before Evolutions. Ideally there will be a few short vignettes that will occur amongst the gathering people. Processional gamelon option would be cool, but not neccesary. We can hook up sound for amplified gong-poor and whotnot..
Probably looking for some uniformity in the players outfits..

Times and Dates:

6:30 load in/set up (or earlier maybe), 7:30 begin music.. We end at about 8pm, when the downstairs show starts.

Friday, June 4 - "Dress Rehearsal" - Good night to get friends in for free..
Saturday, June 5 - Regular show

So the dates are just over 3 weeks (and 4 Thursdays) away, though O. and I will be out of town the week before the shows. If thats enough time and if you guys are interested then I think all interested players should come to all of the next 4 rehearsals. (I know I've been pretty sporatic myself)

HERES THE OFFICIAL EVOLUTIONS INFOSITE
http://www.puppet.org/perform/evolutions.shtml
(Click on the Punch pic btw)

Evolutions
by various artists
2004-05 New Directions Series
Ages 18 and up only

Something new this way comes. Each Saturday night in June, Atlanta’s constantly evolving arts scene takes Center stage. Favorite Center XPT pieces from years past return for a fresh look while undiscovered works are joined by musicians, singers, dancers, the spoken word, the silent puppet, the familiar, the strange, the undefined. Call it a cabaret, a potpourri, an eclectic mix . . . you won’t quite know what’s coming next in this unique evening of performance – and who knows!? It might change each week!

The xylophone has is 13 keys and I'm calling the shortest one (the one foot one) ONE and the long one THIRTEEN. Am thinking that 11 is A and 13 G and one is D but I'm really, really not sure and would appreciate it if someone remembered or could check.

Ludmilla and I came up with

I might be leaving Atlanta, I dont know yet.

The gas is gone in the apartment, the water is on, but illegally. We cant get it turned on legally for less that $1000. The roomie responsible for the electric took the money and ran to Louisiana, so that gets shut off Monday, and the rest of the roomies are off finding new places to live or moving home. And I am still out a car and a job, and am living off savings which are quickly dwindling to nothing. I might have a car come through Friday, and after that I'll take even fast food as a paycheck, but a place to stay is currently the rub, and I'm not quite sure what to do.

The capper is my grandfather is in the hospital, and at any time it could be necessary for me to take an extended leave to Florida. I havent seen the man in over a year, and now this.

If I wind up leaving, it was nice singing with all of you, and I'm sorry I never got to be part of a performance. I'll miss all of you.

I have recently contacted all of you with only a few exceptions. this thread will remedy that I hope.

Our plan to form an Ameri-Gamo-Daffelon is now under way.

We have enough interested parties, and (Amazingly) a night that is for the most part conflict-free for most of us. That night, as it stands right now is Thursday. We currently have no actual instruments, but we have some practice implements, and a couple people have Ideas for more practice implements, as well as Ideas on how to make the actual instraments we'll use. Since the Voice meeting Was moved to Wednesdays (and in part because it was moved) Thursdays are open, permitted we practice late. the suggested time that seems to work for the core respondants is 10PM til Midnight or later. With the number of people enthusiatic about this project, and the loud nature of the rehearsals at such a late hour (well, late for the Eloi at least) Where to practice will be an issue. We need a space large enough to hold everyone, where the cops won't get called on us! (this sort of ties into that "space" discussion....)

We won't get going this week, but Likly will next week. We want to be able to do this, and do it well if its to have the impact we want it to. Rehearsals are key. so to recap:

When:

every THURSDAY 10 PM until 12 AM (or later)

Where:

Unknown

Why:

Because the flower is hungry

Who:

Victor, Aaron, Krispin, Scott, Conrad, Alan, Austin, Mary May, Diana, Damon, Malik, Katie, Kendra, Aviva, and others who may be slipping my overworked mind at the moment....(some listed participants may not pan out)

How:

Any way we can!

currently:

we meet Wednesdays after 8PM for voice.

we meet Thursday after 10PM for gamelon.

we meet at random weekend intervals for archonautics.

Soon:

we will need to add an evening once a week for Production.

we will need to begin rehearsing overall show presentation for various show elements; lets call this "presentation" this could also cover movement, as discussed by Freign in an earlier thread.

It sounds like alot; but that's how performers perfect performances: practice. There will be more as we approach the time of the shows in question; and then afterwards it drops off sharply to allow sanity to seep back in insidiously.

This is where the cooperation and collaboration comes into play. This shouldn't be about anyone in particular pressuring anyone else. this should be art; not dentistry. everybody get their chi up. lets pool our motivation and continue the process of creating something great.

(rabulrrabulrabulrau)...they're like waves of
different personality-alchemies; each mood period
has it's individual traits and bent of perception -
I've actually named some of them, and have violently
killed others. They war amongst themselves, and I try
to figure out whom to feed, and whom to starve.
Occasionally disturbing the equilibrium of
recent inertia have been flashes of inspiration
and insight, troubling for their desperation: an `infra-
self', a subconsciousness of me, wants fervently for
`daffodil' - the ideal one - to do or become this or that.
art-fueled, energetic; projects some kind of revolutionary
magic force into the mass mind of humanity; social evolution,
all that - you know the drill. The dream that compels it
is one that plenty of people feel. I suspect that a good
percentage of `us' are also familiar with the lugubrious
mass of depressed mucous that piles on top of that
dream, stinking and hardening in scabby layers of rancid
leprous failure.
If it weren't for damnable soaring fits of naive,
seemingly impossible hope, fuggin' *aching* is what it is,
I imagine that I could easily
set aside the torturous pain of the diseased mound, bury
a useless suffering infra-self, and move along to some less
feverish reality in which tidier goals are manifested
without the need for anachronistic rigors, time-consuming
artistic experimentation, honing - what has seemed to
amount to fruitless pondering.

Argh.

The image of a black-clad gamelan wearing
ghost-paint and glaring through scary-then-lilting
works of music as a barren space is temporarily
transformed into a fantastic - but modern and
innately secular - deity, will just not leave me alone.

As I stepped out to the porch to smoke (about a 1/2hr
ago as of this writing) music composed itself in my head -
though I actually consciously fought it - and now it
exists, more or less, as SIGH three pieces of music
from which can be derived the framework for three
to five more short movements, all fucking perfect
for the show we've been discussing. Oh, it's clear
that my brain has been working on this for some time,
in the periphery, away from the criticism and
discouragement of my foremind, but now it's gone
all `chatty' - it suggests `Catheter' as a name for the
performance-sigil (along with the phrase
`performance-sigil');
I suppose it's noticed what conclusions I've been drawing
from life and wants to make an energetic strike for some
kind of `success' in the form of I suppose what amounts
to ritualizing. Praying for rain.
So there it is. The music is definitely... alchemical.
Balinese monkeys, humorless post modernist automata,
and The Shape of Things to Come have all found some
sort of collaborative expression in the theory, which is
definitely something a dreaming mind would concoct;
"eerie, ominous, multiphonal orchestra and chorus"
is misleading but necessary.
Hats off from forebrain to infra-self; as a peace offering
and continuing incentive it gave me not only the title
but also the operating theory for the lyrics to the
piece the choral group has been laboring over:

"Verzweiflung Caterere"

is what is offers, and proposes syncretic synthesis
of italian and german into a "singing language" thus
refuting classical music theory with itself in the
playful spirit of the imagined 1920s (it's `infraconscious';
of course it's weird. obviously, the infra-self has
mixed the two pieces up into one big mood, but I don't
need to say this is all insane rambling right? Throw sompm
out there, fuck, somebody else post some embarrassing
shit goddamn yo listen to me what I'm sayin' hey. Two
different pieces, right? But my subconscious mind has
latched onto the word 'catheter'.)

Here are some example phrases:

benchè siano asserviti

linkshändiger magischer Katheter zum Bauch!

erano pronti a trasportare
(sie waren bereit zu liefern) catetere magico sinistro alla pancia....
....aber es war ihr Selbst!

of course, you'll have to hear it sung, and
(since it's 5.57am) I haven't heard it yet;
but the infraconscious self irascibly insists
that I have, if I'd just care to remember, so
whatever whatever OK - I'm doing what it
wants and typing this all up. See you
wednesday~?

The Hungry Flower is angry at me for not having worked hard enough to obtain a 'house' for it. It's a weird flower, on that wants a goddamn house. It doesn't need a bathroom or a bed (though we might like it to have those all the same)...

...any ideas? Past Daffohabitations have always morphed into communes (Sampson St., Celestial Quarters, Celestial Garden) or hateful roommate situations (Celestial Compound near the end there) - I suggest members *don't have to* live together... shit we all grown up now anyways. Who the hell would wanna live like a fuckin hippy teen anyway? Fuck that.

No; I'm thinking along the lines of rehearsal, storage, fabrication, recording/filming space. Dues? That whole concept sucks ass, IMO but if the group is capable of that, maybe... but there's got to be a way to get this together. It would make a big difference to have a place to go, for one thing, all the time - late at night, that sort of thing.

Something to think about. Spread the meme!

the grim harpers play the zithers and broken auto harps which came from the trash deities, those same which gave me oxo wow mom whos drums I do play to high heaven. in among those harpers I, do dance the witch doctor. In this circle of dissonance and forward motion, there is a birthing ritual for camp tribal thumper baby, who may be known as the spawn of tattoo baby, resplendant in her ritual. As this ritual occurs around mardi gras time, we sing camp tribal thumper baby a song in the style of the black indians of new orleans. it is a carnival.
at this point I produce the alien pod, a purple star fish spider, of wire frame & hot glue velvet with a proud bulb, a happy birthday balloon, when peirced with a blade reveals the face paint blood ritual within. and then a closure of harps trailing into a thunder of drums. thus the contents of this chamber of the multi-form cabinet. closure to it's content within a voodoo vaudeville show. 100% HooDoo! as we like to call it in fruitvale.

I'm moving Monday afternoon. things are falling into place at the last minute here, and I can't say I'm at ease about it, but I am however; excited to be going somewhere with a hot shower and working kitchen.

I have a very community minded moving ethic. I try to be there to help those that move. and moments like this are why. everyone has to move sometimes...y'know? Now its my turn (again! please just let me rest. please give me a chance to unpack!) So therefore, I could use all the help I can get. Tim O'D has agreed to lend the use and aid of his Jeep to the endevour, and everything is packed (oh, so very very packed for so so long.....) B ut some help to speed the effort along would be much appreciated.

I promise the standard reward of beer and Pizza for movers.

Daffodil's gamelan has been on my mind; I think we should not only have one but invent an entirely cultured (see how I'm using that word? see? what i'm sayin' though?) form of it that expresses the uniqueness of being what we are where we are.

The gamelan in indonesia is highly regional, and yet westerners/americans that learn gamelan tend to reproduce the 'regionality' of wherever their primary teacher/influence is from - ending up sounding pretty vanilla in the process.

Gamelan is rarely thought of as a way to express passion or anger - by us anyway - what do you think about this?

There's one element of our presentation that isn't too well addressed in our clinics/workshops/meetings: movement and the control of it. Easy to slide into a chair and think "Ludmilla's got it covered" but *no*. She can't do it all and she doesn't have much time to be teaching us things, either.

Who is willing to focus on movement ('physiosomatic kinaesthetic', if anyone asks) for the sinister sigil we've been conspiring over? It would take a chunk out of the already full week, I know. I know!

Discussion for a future project

We have discussed plans for this project for awhile now, But Lokifreign and I agree that it requires the utmost respect for the subject, and its author, the inimitatable Cordwainer Smith.

The Story in Question is called "A Planet Named Shayol"; and the Concordance to corwainer Smith has this to say on that topic:

Shayol:
The pain planet. Dromazoa live here and cause growth in human bodies. This is a place of punishment agreed to between the Instamentality and the Empire. It was off-Limits 400 years before Mercer's arrival; it was discovered by Go-Captain Alverez 200 years before that. There was a population of about 1321 capable of providing spare parts plus about 700 others thoroughly absorbed. Cleaned up by the Instarmentality. [PS] It was worse than the burning of Joan, according to Lord Femtiosex. [DL]

As Daffodil changes and ages, this old man's mind turns to the possibilities and challenges of the future.

All is fleeting, permanence is an illusion - but what can we do to preserve our people's nascent traditions into the future? Hand jive, secret codes? Discuss.......
